REGINA—The Regina Floral Conservatory kicks off a new season Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at 1:00PM. Operated by the volunteers of the Regina Garden Associates (RGA) in partnership with the City of Regina, the 2022-23 season launches with a “Growing Wellness” floral display. The inaugural display incorporates colourful fall flowers and plants and features a wealth of information on how connecting with nature grows wellness in individuals and builds a strong, sustainable community.
“Therapists are now using plants and soil to help people make that connection. Doctors are also prescribing that people should spend more time in natural surroundings,” RGA President Brenda Herring said.
The Conservatory is open from 1:00 to 4:30PM seven days a week, with two new initiatives this season. As part of the new focus on health and wellbeing, the Conservatory will host a weekly Adult Tranquility Hour (Thursdays from 4:30 to 5:30PM) and Bring Your Lunch (Fridays from 12:00 to 1:00 PM).
“Our new Tranquility Hour is a time where the conservatory is free from events and other distractions. It’s adult-only time to relax, breathe, and unwind in Regina’s only indoor tropical garden. You will feel calmer the moment you walk in the door! On Fridays, we welcome folks to bring their lunch (and friends!) and take in the display,” Herring said.
Also on the horizon is the RGA’s renewed effort to build a new Floral Conservatory in Wascana Centre. While that work was put on hold during the pandemic, the organization recently relaunched the project with a huge plant sale this summer at the Regina Farmers’ Market in July.
“There’s not much life left in our current facility and our programs continue to be in high demand. The Wascana Centre Master Plan has had a space reserved for a new floral conservatory for several years. We’re excited to continue our work to make that a reality,” Jess Paul, Chair of the RGA’s New Floral Conservatory Committee said. “In the meantime, we welcome everyone to come and visit us at our current site at 1450B Fourth Avenue in Regina.”
Conservatory is located just east of the Regina Public School Board office. Admission is free, but donations are encouraged.
